The forth issue is dedicated to Yamatani Yusuke's long-term work "Onsen". He regularly travels to the summit of Japan's volcanic mountains, accompanied by friends and strangers, to photograph them during collective baths. Through this work, Yamatani simultaneously questions the body's relationship to nature, in a primitive geology, as well as the historical social relationships induced in the act of collective bathing. Convinced that similar scenes already existed millennia before, he creates images as raw as they are sensitive, of non-eroticized bodies in timeless scenes. This dialogue between nature and culture seems strangely current, as much as primitive. Text by Galaad Van Daele.
